Payment notifications and ecommerce store order / shipping notifications feel like obvious use cases and I am curious if anyone has any webhooks they have found particularly interesting? Or exceptionally useful?

Hello HN !
I'm the founder of https://symfoz.com which is basically a RSS aggregator that allows people to partition the content they want to see in dedicated spaces called "Playlists", thus reducing the time needed to find the information they need.
Why Symfoz instead of other RSS aggregators ?
- Create playlists of content, avoid mixing too many feeds in the same place. You know where everything is. - Follow people or playlists, people can create some playlists with AWESOME content, you may benefit from it. - We handle classic RSS feeds, but also Youtube channels, Twitter feeds, Spotify Podcasts, sub-reddits. - An easy UI interface (This is still WIP, UI is very hard haha) - Promote retention of information by allowing people to take notes (not highlighting but really take notes), instead of just consuming content and forget it. You'll be able to find your notes easily.
A bit more about the project (you can skip this!), this is a side project that I've been working on for almost a year. I'm a back-end developer and the stack runs in Python. If you'd like more details, please feel free to ask, I'll be glad to answer !
Thanks for taking the time to read this, feel free to give any feedback, I would be really grateful :) !

Pre-pandemic I endured a daily commute of nearly two hours, door-to-door, from Long Island into Manhattan. These days I don't commute as frequently, but the experience has instilled in me an apprecation for a backpack that can carry almost anything I can possibly need from a laptop and pens to aspirin and duct tape.
My Nomatic backpack has served me extraordinarily well for a few years, but its age is showing and it's time for a potential upgrade.
So I ask you, hacker community: do you have any suggestions?

I am handcrafting increasingly more adhoc HTTP requests that I need to sometimes re-use.
The way I do it now is just by writing cURL that I keep in a notebook. However, I was wondering if there are more advanced CLI based HTTP clients I should consider that make it easier to inspect request/response?

When you fork a repository, GitHub won't add any contributions you make to the fork in your contribution matrix. These will be counted only after you create a PR to the original repo and it gets merged!!!
Can anybody explain why GitHub works like this and if there's a way to disable it for my forks?
I understand that instead of forking through github I could "fork" manually by cloning and changing the origin to my repo, but why not make it easy?

We are a B2B that has hardware running Linux in the field for a bunch of customers at their site (let's round to like 1000 machines and growing). All of them "connect" to our servers through OpenVPN and have been, from "days gone past", loaded with Zabbix and send us telemetry. Unfortunately due to personnel changes, no one is really sure of how things are done anymore and the task of maintaining this monitoring is coming down to me. How would you approach this task? I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed and reading online kinda want to just start over by choosing something newer like Prometheus.

Hello all,
I am a current Java engineer with 1.5 YOE. (Age 26)
I want to move into low level programming (C/C++/Rust) and so I started a job hunt this July.
The market is rough, I have an offer for way more pay, but it’s again a Java backend role.
How important is it to move into the area I want (low level programming) early? If I take another job doing Java and stay for a while, will I be stuck as a Java engineer?
I should mention, my current job pays okay (not great) but I moved to a new team that seems really relaxed, so I could continue interviewing and wait for the exact area I want without must trouble.
The problem is I am not sure how much results interviewing will bring since the job market looks terrible.

I just placed a call from my cell phone to a well-known 1-800 number, and the call quality was very scratchy.
I hung up and called again, and the call wasn't scratchy at all.
My sense is that nothing really changed on my end, but I guess it's hard to be sure. What typically introduces interference to a call?

Recently I was reading about fluid simulation and stumbled upon the Gauss Seidel method. I got interested in how it works and made a program that visualizes the method in action.
I had the idea of making an interactive book-like thing for a while, so took this as a chance to do just that.
Note that touch input doesn't work and the layout is targeted towards bigger screens, so it doesn't function properly on mobile.
It was fun to make and I wanted to share it. Maybe someone will find it useful. Corrections and feedback are welcome.
Technical Stuff - A single 1.7MB HTML file with embedded JavaScript and WebAssembly. You can save this single file and double click it to run. - A math typesetter from scratch in C that compiles/renders the equations in real-time (uses KaTex fonts and STB true type to rasterize the fonts). - Platform code is done using Sokol (tested on windows and web). - The UI is done using Dear ImGui (Most of the code is done in C++ to use ImGui without a wrapper except for the equations compiler).
