Ask HN: Looking for coding challenge platform with a specific use-case

Hello,

I am teaching a coding class (middle schoolers) and I have a specific need.

I am looking for a site/system where the site provides the shell of a board game / word game (assume rectangular board) and my students can fill in the game logic or write bots/programs playing against it.

Does such a thing exist?

I am not interested in site that already game-ify programming with their own game.

As an example, imagine a student needs to write a program that plays (or attempts to play), a board game like chess. Much of the grunt work of hosting a site, logic for new game, game rules, how to connect clients etc can be abstracted out and handled by the site.

Any help is appreciated.
