TypeScript/JS Developers for a Non-Profit Scientific Journal for Young People

Hi everyone! We need young people looking to work with an actual production codebase to help create experiences for article authors and editors.

The Journal

The Young Scientists Journal is a non-profit peer-reviewed science journal for under 21's. Completely staffed by young people (~200 editors, ~10 artists, ~2 devs).

Me

I joined the Young Scientists Journal when I was 15. I was the one of the first developers there, and I helped them move from their legacy Annotum stack to a semi-decent Wordpress setup. I also, more recently, wrote an Article Management System to handle all these incoming articles. I'll be turning 21 soon enough, so it's time to start looking for people who can take over the reins for the software I've been developing.

Role

Maintain the Article Management System

Help write front ends for submitting and managing articles

Help maintain the Wordpress website (Optional)

What we need from you

Be a young person

Have at least one project written in JavaScript

Be willing to learn TypeScript

Be willing to learn how to deploy TypeScript apps

Don't worry if any of that sounds intimidating. When I started, I hadn't seriously used a programming language before. The difference is, when you join, I'll be there to get you accustomed to working with this kind of codebase.

If you have any questions about the position, want to help with something different or even want to submit an article, leave a comment or send me a message.

Thanks to everyone for reading this!

from the YSJ!
