Ask HN: Are iOS engineers expected to be on call?

Hello HN, I am a front end web developer, and I've been starting to notice that an increasing amount of front end jobs now require participating in on call cycles.

I've had jobs before that required being on call, and while I do believe that it's an effective way of ensuring higher quality services, I just don't want to do it anymore. I don't want to wake up in the middle of the night to fix server issues or be outside with the possibility of being paged hanging over my head.

I still really like user interfaces, so I was thinking I could switch to iOS development to scratch that itch as well as not worry about having to go on call. Am I wrong? Are iOS developers these days also required to be on call?
