Ask HN: Mac with an M1 Pro, yet Finder.app still lags. How to fix?

Finder.app still locks up multiple times per week.

No external kexts installed. No Dropbox.

When it lags, activity monitor shows massive CPU and ram usage from finder.app. Even right now at idle, Finder shows 9 GB of ram usage.

32GB ram. M1 Pro. Doesn't make sense to me.

How to diagnose and fix?
