Static website is a controlled cache to the extreme, when you prepopulate cache when you create the content.

Benefits on top of regular cache:

+ maintenance cost: you need to upgrade wordpress, why my static website doesn't require any work over years

+ security: small vulnerability surface

+ cost: hosting even popular static website is cheap
